CASPEO was founded in 2004 by Marie-Véronique Durance and Dr. Stéphane Brochot, who worked at BRGM's (French Geological Survey) Process Simulation Group since the early 1990s, where USIM PAC was originally developed starting in 1986. The company publishes and commercialises the software and provides consulting, training, and process engineering services in 50+ countries.

CASPEO serves mining and metallurgy as its primary markets, with additional applications in biomass, food processing, solid waste treatment, and other divided-solids industries. Its software suite includes USIM PAC, BILCO (data reconciliation), INVENTEO (metallurgical accounting), ECHANT (sampling), and FLUIDFLOW (piping).
