Akselos
Physics-based structural digital twin platform for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of critical mining assets.
About Akselos
Akselos was founded in 2012, leveraging patented Reduced Basis Finite Element Analysis (RB-FEA) technology from 15 years of research at MIT and EPFL. The technology enables physics-based structural digital twins that run 100–10,000x faster than conventional FEA methods, making real-time structural monitoring of large assets computationally feasible for the first time.
The company has raised approximately $28–30M from Shell Ventures, AT Capital Group, Japan Energy Fund, and GRO Capital, which completed a follow-on investment in September 2025. Akselos serves offshore oil and gas, petrochemicals, wind energy, and mining sectors. For mining, the focus is on structural asset integrity — stackers, reclaimers, and shiploaders — rather than geological or spatial digital twins. The company employs approximately 100–120 people and is headquartered at EPFL Innovation Park in Lausanne, Switzerland.
