Onyen was founded in 2020 by Laurie Clark, named one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women, from a direct observation that ESG reports were costing junior mining companies $100,000–$150,000 each. Unveiled at PDAC 2021, Onyen won Best ESG Reporting Solution and Best RegTech Startup of the Year at the 2021 Canadian RegTech Awards. The platform targets junior and mid-tier miners who need ESG reporting at a fraction of the cost of enterprise alternatives. Onyen reports 30+ customers on 3-year terms across North and South America.

Onyen fills a clear market gap: while enterprise platforms like IsoMetrix, Cority, and Sphera serve large mining companies, Onyen specifically targets the long tail of junior and mid-tier miners who cannot afford enterprise ESG platforms or dedicated sustainability teams.
