About Motion Metrics
Motion Metrics is a Vancouver-based mining technology company founded in 1999 by Dr. Shahram Tafazoli, acquired by The Weir Group in November 2021 and now serving as Weir's global centre of excellence for AI and machine vision technology within the ESCO division. The company combines ruggedised camera systems with deep learning algorithms to deliver real-time monitoring and analytics at multiple points in the mine-to-mill process — from shovel buckets through haul trucks to conveyor belts.
Motion Metrics systems are installed at more than 80 mine sites across six continents, trusted by major mining companies including Codelco and BHP. Users access data summaries, in-depth performance reports, automated SMS/email alerts (for missing teeth or oversized boulders), and cross-equipment analytics from any authorised browser.
ShovelMetrics Gen 3

The Gen 3 version uses advanced high-definition bucket cameras with deep learning algorithms to provide missing tooth detection, tooth wear monitoring, lip shroud detection, payload estimation, particle size analysis, boulder detection, and operator blind spot reduction. All data flows to MetricsManager Pro for fleet-wide analytics and trend reporting.
