Motion Metrics

Motion Metrics is a Vancouver-based mining technology company founded in 1999 by Dr. Shahram Tafazoli, acquired by The Weir Group in November 2021 and now serving as Weir's global centre of excellence for AI and machine vision technology within the ESCO division. The company combines ruggedised camera systems with deep learning algorithms to deliver real-time monitoring and analytics at multiple points in the mine-to-mill process — from shovel buckets through haul trucks to conveyor belts.

Motion Metrics systems are installed at more than 80 mine sites across six continents, trusted by major mining companies including Codelco and BHP. Dr. Tafazoli continues to lead the business under Weir ownership. All product data feeds into MetricsManager Pro, the centralised cloud-based analytics platform that transforms point-of-measurement data into mine-wide operational intelligence.
